North Korea's Discourse on the New Cold War Series: International Stances on North Korea's New Cold War Theory

Chairman Kim Jong Un declared at the 6th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Party Congress that "the international relations structure has transformed into a 'new Cold War' structure," and is strengthening strategic cooperation among North Korea, China, and Russia. However, unlike North Korea, which openly supports Russia, China has withheld a clear stance of support for Russia and has instead presented proposals for the political resolution of the Ukraine war, revealing subtle differences in their positions. Recognizing the issue that complex and differing strategic calculations lie behind the outwardly close relations between North Korea, China, and Russia, the East Asia Institute (EAI) is publishing a series of commentaries that comprehensively analyze the positions of the United States, China, Russia, Japan, and South Korea regarding the new Cold War order envisioned by North Korea. Six regional experts will examine the perceptions of neighboring countries regarding North Korea's discourse on the new Cold War and present prospects for the future direction of the international order surrounding the Korean Peninsula.
