At a time when ROK-US cooperation has become even more crucial due to the North Korean nuclear crisis, external pressures include the US proceeding with the realignment and reduction of US Forces Korea as part of its defense transformation policy, while internal pressures are the emergence of a sense of sovereignty advocating for a transition to a ROK-US alliance that is a partnership befitting Korea's economic development. Furthermore, neighboring countries surrounding the Korean Peninsula, such as China and Japan, are also seeking opportunities to leap forward as global powers in the process of reorganizing into a new diplomatic order. EAI contributes to the formulation of South Korea's foreign policy by tracking and investigating how Koreans' perceptions of the US and other countries are changing due to these shifts in the external environment.
