The 2nd Citizen Political Panel Study

Recent discussions surrounding a grand coalition have intensified interest in the issues of political realignment and power structure reform, spurred by President Roh Moo-hyun's proposals. Furthermore, the political reform bill passed by the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee on June 29th is scheduled for a plenary session vote at the end of July. While discussions on constitutional amendment, which had gained prominence following the election of Chung Dong-young as the Uri Party leader in April, have been postponed until after the local elections next year, the current political circles are hesitant to link grand coalition talks to constitutional amendment issues.

However, discussions on power structure reform led by the political sphere can only materialize with public support, necessitating an examination of public opinion regarding the current constitutional amendment and grand coalition issues. Additionally, given that these matters are entangled with the sharp political interests of each party, the attitudes of different political bases within each party are also of interest. EAI and the JoongAng Ilbo will conduct an in-depth analysis of public opinion trends on political reform proposals, focusing on constitutional amendment and grand coalition discussions, and track the potential for changes in the current political structure.
