The 2nd Civic Politics Panel Study

Recent discussions surrounding President Roh Moo-hyun's coalition proposal have intensified interest in the issues of political realignment and the reorganization of the power structure. Furthermore, the political reform proposal passed by the National Assembly's Special Committee on Political Reform on June 29th is scheduled for a plenary session vote at the end of July. While the debate on constitutional amendment, which had surfaced following the election of Representative Choo Mi-ae of the Uri Party in early April, has been postponed until after the local elections next year, the current political circles are hesitant to let discussions on coalition lead to the issue of constitutional amendment.

However, since discussions on reorganizing the power structure, led by the political sphere, can only materialize with public support, it is necessary to examine the public's stance on the current issues of constitutional amendment and coalition. Additionally, given that this is an issue where the political interests of each party are sharply intertwined, the attitudes of each political party based on their political foundations are also a matter of interest. EAI and the JoongAng Ilbo will conduct an in-depth analysis of public opinion trends regarding political reform proposals, focusing on the issues of constitutional amendment and coalition discussions, and track the potential for changes in the current political structure.
