[EAI Civic Politics Panel 1st Round] Power Institutions' Trust and Influence Survey Cross-Tabulation

Traditionally, the state was the primary agent of governance. However, in recent times, regardless of the country, the scope and influence of private institutions such as corporations, labor unions, and civic organizations have expanded. This transformed mode of governance, where various institutions within society possess autonomy and participate jointly in national affairs, is referred to as "governance." EAI and the JoongAng Ilbo sought to empirically measure the governance of Korean society by focusing on the "trust" and "influence" of representative institutions in each domain.

The survey results suggest that the unilateral or coercive governance by state institutions, which was characteristic of the economic development era, is no longer feasible. Instead, the role of the state has become crucial as a manager and coordinator. Most importantly, restoring trust in state institutions, including the Blue House, has emerged as an urgent task. A noteworthy finding is that large corporations, which were historically targets of anti-business sentiment, ranked at the top in both trust and influence. It remains to be seen whether society is transitioning towards a market-centric system where corporations are respected.

Survey Respondents: Men and women aged 18 and above

Valid Sample Size: 1,619 individuals
