[Press Release] Expert Survey - Survey Results on Perceptions of Japan

Due to the enactment of the "Takeshima Day" ordinance by Japan's Shimane Prefecture and the distortion of history textbooks, Korea-Japan relations are cooling down without end. However, while we are primarily focusing our response on the Dokdo issue, Japan is solidifying its new diplomatic and security strategy by announcing the New Defense Program Guidelines, which outline its defense strategy for the 21st century, late last year, and the 2+2 U.S.-Japan Security Joint Declaration in February of this year. Furthermore, Japan is actively pursuing its bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council at the UN General Assembly this September, seeking to expand its role in the international community.

In this regard, the East Asia Institute (EAI) conducted an expert survey targeting domestic political scientists for four days from December 13 to December 17 of last year. The results of this expert survey, conducted through the institute's proprietary online survey program with the participation of a total of 135 political scientists, will provide meaningful implications on how Japan should be perceived and how to respond.
