[English Minutes] 2nd Dialogue21 Meeting

Diplomatic issues between South Korea and the United States, such as the dispatch of troops to Iraq and the redeployment of US Forces Korea, are being significantly highlighted. In this context, concerns about the cooperative relationship between the two countries are indeed being raised. Recognizing the need for EAI to establish multifaceted dialogue channels between South Korea and the United States and to narrow the differences in mutual understanding through these channels, we aim to explore concrete measures. In this vein, EAI proposed a meeting as an alternative, where first- and second-term National Assembly members, high-ranking officials from the US Embassy in Korea, US Forces Korea, and AMCHAM would regularly discuss and consult on international issues and diplomatic agendas between South Korea and the United States. The outcome of this initiative is "Dialogue21".

The 2nd Dialogue21 meeting was held on August 16th from 6 PM to 9 PM for approximately three hours, under the theme "ROK-US Cooperation: Beyond the Peninsula?" Professor Jaesung Lee of Seoul National University's Department of Diplomacy presented a paper, followed by a discussion among the attendees.
