“’My Ideal Neighborhood’ House Finder: Finding a Perfect Neighborhood in South Korea”

EAI has conducted the first video interview that is part of the ADRN project “Sharing Our Practices for Better Governance.” EAI interviews Seung-chan Oh, Deputy Director General for Statistical Services Policy at the Korean Ministry of Statistics, who created and implemented the “My Ideal Neighborhood” house finder tool. He discusses the benefits of the service and the challenges he faced in the process of implementing the service. The “My Ideal Neighborhood” house finder tool is a customized service for those who are planning to move. This service is an excellent reflection of the values promoted by the Government 3.0 initiative as it incorporates data integration across different ministries, the utilization of public data through ministerial cooperation, and the inclusion of public opinion. This interview showcases a good example of substantive democracy in action. Nineteen democracy research institutions from thirteen Asian countries, such as Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, are currently participating in the network.
