2019 Next Generation Conference

EAI, in collaboration with the Korea Foundation (KF), conducts the [KF Korea Workshop] to enhance understanding and foster empathy towards Korea among foreign residents in Korea.

On August 29, the Next Generation Conference, the final event of the 2019 KF Korea Workshop 2, was held at the Korea Foundation Global Center. International students residing in Korea from 20 countries submitted essay study plans on the theme of Korean society, based on the knowledge about Korea acquired through a total of six Academikus courses. Following an initial review by Professor Semi Yoon, an advisor for Communicus, seven essays were selected, and through a second review, four essays were finally chosen. The four selected students had the opportunity to present and discuss their essays at the Next Generation Conference after revisions, following guidance and mentoring from Professor Semi Yoon. The conference was divided into two sessions: 1) New Perspectives on Korean Culture, and 2) New Perspectives on Korean Society. Presentations and discussions on this year's selected outstanding papers were held with EAI interns and debaters from domestic and international universities and graduate schools who are alumni of Sarangbang.

The Grand Prize was awarded to Gül Beste SABAZ (Seoul National University) for her essay “Confucianism and its Influence on the Korean Society,” and the Excellence Award was given to Ahmed Essam Nashaat Abdelalim (Korea University) for his paper “Did Korea Recognize Social-Ecological Transformation in Green Growth? - Assessment of Social Impacts and Recommendations.”
