[KF-EAI Korea Friendship] Shin Hee-kwon, Professor of Korean History at the University of Seoul, 'From Joseon to the Republic of Korea'

The East Asia Institute (EAI) is conducting the KF-EAI Korea Friendship program, a training and networking initiative for international students residing in Korea, in collaboration with the Korea Foundation (KF).

Professor Shin Hee-kwon lectured on the founding and fall of Joseon under the theme 'From Joseon to the Republic of Korea,' discussing the value of historicality in a historic city. He highlighted the city walls surrounding Seoul as the greatest cultural heritage of Seoul, stating that these walls were representative facilities that announced the presence of the king and demonstrated the dignity of the state. He noted that the founding of Joseon, numerous wars, and the Japanese colonial period have left traces on the city walls, and he focused on the city walls as artifacts that confirm Seoul's identity, explaining their role and historical value.
