[KF-EAI Korea Friendship] Former Unification Minister Ryu Gil-jae on "Korean Peninsula Unification and Peace in East Asia"

The East Asia Institute (EAI) is conducting the educational and networking program [KF-EAI Korea Friendship] for international students residing in Korea, with the support of the Korea Foundation (KF) and Samyang Holdings.

The third lecture of [KF-EAI Korea Friendship] was held on the topic of "Korean Peninsula Unification and Peace in East Asia" by former Unification Minister Ryu Gil-jae. Former Minister Ryu explained that the division of the Korean Peninsula is becoming entrenched and prolonged, leading to a dilution of national identity. He argued that young people should therefore consider not just the necessity of unification, but also what constitutes a desirable form of unification. Furthermore, he emphasized that in the 21st century global context, the issue of unification requires a shift in perception and changes in its form and methods. He stated that this change would begin with building a consensus that unification is a future vision pursuing values such as coexistence, cooperation, and reciprocity.
