[EAI Working Paper Series on the Presidential Election Panel Survey] “The 2022 Presidential Election and Korean Politics”_Intent of Planning

The East Asia Institute (EAI) is operating the project <Changing Korean Voters>, which studies the 20th presidential election and Korean political reform tasks, based on the presidential election panel survey* conducted with Korea Research. The research team of 10 members is publishing working papers and presenting the results of the survey analysis at the conference titled “Analysis of the 20th Presidential Election Vote and Outlook for Local Elections,” held on May 4, 2022. The research team, chaired by Professor Kang Won-taek of Seoul National University, presents the keywords of changing public sentiment trends revealed by this presidential election as regime judgment, generational conflict, and social polarization.

*The East Asia Institute (EAI) conducted panel surveys twice, before and after the 20th presidential election, in collaboration with Korea Research. The first panel survey was conducted for 4 days from Wednesday, January 12 to Saturday, January 15, targeting 1,515 men and women aged 18 and over residing nationwide, using a proportional allocation sampling method based on region, gender, and age, utilizing a RDD sampling frame of wireless telephone numbers. The second panel survey was also conducted in the same manner for 6 days from Thursday, March 10 to Tuesday, March 15, immediately after the election, targeting a total of 1,104 individuals.
