[EAI Working Paper] Liberalism Series_ Intent of the Project

The East Asia Institute (EAI) focuses on liberalism as an ideology to overcome the socio-political issues prevalent in contemporary Korean society, such as polarized confrontation, democratic backsliding, and social division. A research team composed of experts in sociology and political science analyzes the origins of liberal political thought and the strengths and weaknesses of liberalism as realized in Korean society. The authors examine the partisan nature of liberalism in modern Korean history, its theoretical advantages and disadvantages within political, economic, and social contexts, and present arguments for its potential to lead future societal development.
